RETIREMENT HORSE BOARDING

“If my horse can’t be in my backyard, I can’t think of a better place than Creekside.”
-Theresa Jorgensen

We are the primary caretakers, and we live on site. Horses are in the care of lifelong horse people, including a veterinarian.

We offer unlimited lush pasture and run-in sheds with free choice hay.

As horses age, metabolic and physical changes translate into different needs, as they are no longer capable of absorbing the same amount of nutritional value of their intake. Older horses may have compromised immune systems, worn out teeth, and the inability to digest in their previous capacity, so we also supplement with the necessary amount of grain.

Optimum forage source has always been fresh pasture, however, horses with metabolic challenges may not be able to utilize this rich food source. We can manage those cases individually as needed with dry lots and grazing muzzles.

In the summertime, we recommend fly masks during daytime turnout, which we take off in the evening and on rainy days.

In the run-in area, it has been our experience that the best fly control is industrial fans, as fly sprays only are effective when wet.

In the wintertime, on those cold, windy days/nights, we blanket the horses according to their needs and the thickness of their coats. All horses have access to heated water tubs to ensure that they stay hydrated, as horses are more prone to colic in dry, cold conditions.

“My two 30 year old senior horses are well cared for at Creekside Farm.  David and Cheryl are very attentive to any health needs and keep me updated about my horses’ status. They always accommodate any specific requests about care, and I feel confident leaving my horses in their care. My horses are happy and relaxed at the farm, and I hope they can live out their retirement there.”

End of the Trail

The most precious things in life are mortal, and time catches up with us all. When it is time for your horse to cross the rainbow bridge they can rest here on our farm. We have everything on site and can help with all the arrangements.

“When I was searching for a retirement home for my daughter’s 25 year old retired show hunter, I was incredibly fortunate that David and Cheryl were willing to give him a great home. Years later, my son-in-law sent his 28 year old retired jumper into their care and really appreciated the communication about his horse’s needs and care.”
