Case Study: “Abe”
An adult draft gelding named “Abe” arrived to our farm for an extended layup and recovery following a surgery to remove a chip from his coffin bone. You can view photos of his hoof case in the farrier section.

Abe!

Abe arrived wearing a leather boot full of serum and blood.

Dr. Branibar is flushing the cavity with sterile bags of water. The coffin bone is exposed.

The first of many, many bandages! This Belgian gelding wasn’t the easiest patient and was at times somewhat belligerent.

Forging the biggest heart bar I’ve ever made, to this day!

Nailed on!

Abe, lateral view, shod with heart bar and hospital plate.
Some hoof growth.

Abe, bottom view. Hospital plate for draft sized heart bar.

Dr. Branibar bandaging the hoof.

Hoof cleaned up and finally ready for filling with glue and fiberglass.

Keratex putty to cover sensitive area. Finally no bandaging!
Layup Case Study: “Oscar”

Degradation of the suspensory ligaments, both hind legs. Wearing performance tendon support wraps.

Shod with full length steel egg bar with a rolled square toe for posterior support and easier breakover.
