The lateral side can be fit a lot fuller with an aluminum shoe, as you can box the edge more fully.

Case 2: Medial Collateral Ligament Tear

Medial aspect deficiency has probably contributed to the condition and renders the prescription for a collateral ligament shoe ineffectual. To give medial support the hoof must be medially expanded. This is done with glue and fiberglass.

Glue goes up to just below the hairline to make an artificial medial hoof wall.
Note that the hoof capsule is now wider at the base than at the coronary band, it was the opposite before
Compare to first photo– the hoof capsule is equal distance across medial to lateral. The medial side is deeper punched so nails can penetrate into hoof wall.
